In October of 2020 we made some modifications to the Client Portal including enhanced security to meet the needs of professionals working from home across the world. This article addresses some of those settings and aesthetic changes.
What is the same?
- Your clients will still be able to pay via their invoice link when "Guess Access" is set to Yes.
- Your Clients will still be able to utilize ACH Payments.
- If you’ve invited your Clients to the Portal their experience will still be the same.
What is different?
-
If you have not invited Clients to the Client Portal and only email links with "Guest Access" enabled, those clients will only be able to view the specific Invoice from the Invoice Email which they have clicked on.
-
For clients to view previous invoicing & payments they must create login credentials the Client Portal. Therefore, if you have Clients with outstanding balances we recommend Inviting them to the Portal and selecting YES for the "Allow clients to view their account history?" & "Display Balances" settings.
-
Invoice link Expiry has been updated to the following options for Expiration: 7, 14, 30, or 60 days.
-
When using the Email Invoice window and clicking the blue "Preview Invoice" button to see what the Invoice will look like in the Portal, you'll need to have the "Allow guest access" setting set to "Yes" or you will be prompted to log into the Portal.
- Internet Explorer is not a supported browser by Microsoft as of 2016 and with the growing security concerns, the Client Portal will not function with it. Please have your Clients use a supported browser.

Allow clients to view their account history?
Selecting “Yes” for the "Allow clients to view their account history?" option will allow your clients to view their billing and payment history within the Client Portal. This setting will also allow your Clients to pay any outstanding balances across their account as a whole. If you select "No" then your Clients won't be able to view their account history and they will only be able to pay for the currently linked Invoice. For more information on this setting click here.
Display balances?
This option controls visibility of invoice balances and account balances. For a Client to see both the Invoice Amount and the Amount remaining on the Invoice, the "Display balances" setting will need to be set to "Yes". When the Client is within the Portal the Invoice Amount and the Amount remaining will show on the right. For more information on this setting click here.
Allow guest access?
Guest access allows Clients to view and pay invoices without logging into the Portal. However, if you would like for them to access further data they will need to log into the Client Portal.
If the "Allow guest access" setting is set to "No", then all Clients will be required to create a login to access their Invoices and Account History via the Client Portal. This setting will also determine if you're able to see the Invoice when clicking on the blue generate Invoice link in the Email Invoice window. For more information on this setting click here.
