HOW DO I PREPARE MY DATA FOR IMPORT?
Once you've successfully exported/downloaded your data from Clio, please download our Import Intake Form and the example spreadsheets (from the bottom of this article). Before submitting your request, you will need to complete the intake form and copy/paste your data into the proper columns in these spreadsheets.
HOW DO I MATCH UP MY CLIO DATA WITH THE PROPER SPREADSHEET COLUMNS?

Clio does not have an option to export "Clients" specifically - but you can obtain most of this information by filtering your Contacts page to display Clients only, and then exporting that information.
You can retrieve this data from the “Matters” link on the export page.
If you have just a general list of contacts, you will get this data from the “Contacts” options on Clio's export page. If you have any contacts that you’ve already tied to specific Matters in your system, you will want to pull the “Contact Related Matters” option on your Export page as well.
You can download a copy of your account's time entries from the "Time Entries" option on the Clio Export page. You will need the backdate this while setting up the export, to make sure that it is pulling your full list of entries.
Please note: If your time entries are uploaded as "Billing Complete" status, they act as a placeholder in the system - simply recorded for your reference. If they are uploaded as "Ready for Billing" you would be able to pull them into invoices and essentially recreate your invoicing from previous systems in your Bill4Time account.
Click on "Expense Entries" option to download a copy of your account's expenses.
Clio does not have any data in the exports section that would provide you with your client's starting balances. We recommend running a "Client Ledger Report" or "Matter Balance Summary Report" to obtain this information.
ONCE MY DATA IS READY, HOW DO I INITIATE THE IMPORT PROCESS?
When you've finished preparing your data, please send an e-mail to our Support Team (via Support@Bill4Time.com). In this email, you will need to provide your:
- Company ID
- Completed Import Spreadsheets
- Completed Import Intake Form
After your data is received in the correct format and verified by our team, we will update you with an estimated timeline for completion. Please doublecheck your data for any empty required cells and be sure to provide all of your spreadsheets at one time. This will help prevent further delays in processing your import.
