In addition to assigning Timekeeper Classifications at the firm level, Bill4Time now allows you to set custom classifications for each user on a per-client or per-matter basis. This is especially useful for firms working with clients who require different LEDES classifications or billing categories for the same timekeepers depending on the matter.
This guide walks you through how to assign or override a user’s Timekeeper Classification at both the Client and Matter levels under the Billing Rates tab.
How to Assign Classifications at the Client Level
-
Navigate to the Client:
-
Click the Clients tab in the main navigation bar.
-
Use search or filters to locate and select the appropriate client.
-
-
Go to the Billing Rates Tab:
-
In the client profile, select the Billing Rates tab.
-
-
Set Classification Per User:
-
Find the timekeeper you want to update in the user list.
-
In the Classification dropdown next to the user’s name, select the appropriate classification.
-
Click Save to apply changes.
-
The classification set here will set the firm-level classification for all matters under this client—unless a classification is set at the matter level (see below).
How to Assign Classifications at the Matter Level
-
Navigate to the Matter:
-
Click the Projects (or Matters) tab.
-
Locate and select the relevant matter.
-
-
Access Billing Rates Tab:
-
Click the Billing Rates tab in the matter profile.
-
-
Set Classification Per User:
-
Locate the timekeeper.
-
Use the Classification dropdown to select the desired classification specific to this matter.
-
Click Save.
-
Classifications set at the matter level will take priority over client and firm-level classifications.
