Overview
For Legal Pro and Enterprise plan users, the Client Creation report shows all clients created within a given date range. Use it to track new business intake, or to confirm which clients were added in a given period.
Accessing the Client Creation Report
- Go to the Reports tab.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Scroll or search for “Client Creation.” If searched, look for the result with the Advanced badge next to it.
- Click Open.
Using Filters
The Client Creation Report opens with these filters:
- Creation Date: choose a preset range (e.g. Today, This Month, This Year) or a Custom Range. Defaults to This Year.
- Account Manager
- Currency Code: defaults to your firm's primary currency. Change it if you bill across multiple currencies and want to isolate one.
- Client
Click Filters to add more: Client Type, Accounting Isolation, and Client Status.
If your firm is on the Enterprise plan, any custom fields you've configured are also available here as additional filters. Custom field availability is contextual to the report; only fields for the record types actually included in this report will appear. For example, invoice custom fields won't show up as filters on a report that doesn't include invoice data.
Once you land on a combination you'll use again, click Save Filters to to mark it as a favorite, making it accessible from the Favorites report category.
Running the Report
Set your filters and click Run Report. The grid below updates with clients created in the selected date range. If it comes back empty, check your date range first, that's the most common reason a report shows nothing.
Understanding the Report Grid
Each row is a single client created in the selected date range. The default columns are:
- Client Name / Client ID
- Creation Date
- Client Status
- Client Type
- Account Manager
- Client Contact
- Client Email
Customizing the Report Grid
- Columns: click Columns to show or hide any of the fields above, plus other available columns beyond the defaults listed here.
- Enterprise plan firms will also see the same custom fields available here as additional columns, following the same contextual rule as the filters above.
- Reordering and resizing: drag column headers to rearrange them, or drag column borders to resize.
- Sorting: click a column header to sort by that field; click it again to reverse the order.
- Group By: click Group By and choose one or more fields — Month, Account Manager, Client Type, Client Status, and Account Isolation. Each grouping level adds a subtotal row, and Collapse folds every group down to just its subtotal.
- Page size: the items-per-page menu at the bottom controls how many rows show at once (100 by default, up to 1000), with page controls next to it for the rest.
Exporting the Report
Click Export and choose Export to Excel to download the current view.
Tips & Common Use Cases
- Run this at the end of each month or quarter to track new client growth over time.
- Group by Month to see intake trends across a longer date range.
- Group by Account Manager to see who's bringing in the most new clients.
- Compare against the Client List report when you need the full client roster rather than just new additions.
