Viewing Matter (Project/Cases/ect) Tab
At the top of your Bill4Time screen, you will see the menu bar. This menu bar will help you navigate through Bill4time. This help article will cover the Project Tab. This project tab will show a list of all projects a user has access to (depending on their permissions). By using the search bar, users can quickly find a specific client by searching by keywords in their name.
Add a New Matter: Click this button to add a new matter
Show Filter/ Clear Filters: You can show or hide filters, these filters help narrow down search results.
The Gear Icon allows you to change what columns/data you see for the list of clients.
Page Size: This setting allows for showing 10, 25, 50, 100, or 1000 clients per page. Once changed each user will default to their designated choice, however, this will be cleared with clearing C&C.
Creating a New Matter (Project/Case/Ect)
Matter ID: This field is optional, however, if left blank it will autogenerate.
Matter Name: This is a required field when creating a matter, however, it can be edited at any time.
Client: This is a required field when creating a matter, and will time the matter to the client in the system.
Matter Start Date: Record the start date for this matter, this date can be found in some reports and is helpful in record keeping.
Matter Due Date: Record the due date for this matter, this date can be found in some reports and is helpful in record keeping.
Client Contact: Allows for contacts to be added to the matter/
Location: The Track Client Locations feature allows you to track your client's various locations.
Assigned To: Matters can be assigned to users for easy filtering and some report filtering, this also is a great tool for keeping things organized.
Email: Add an email here for the project, specifically if the matter has a different contact than the client. * The client-level email will appear on invoices.
Description: This is an internal description to add details, or help your firm stay organized.
Matter Type: Here you can choose the type of matter, the system's default options are Consulting, development, and research. You can add more types, by clicking the menu next to this field.
Billing Method: There are three billing methods to choose from, Hourly, Flat Fee, and Contingency.
Payment Due Upon: There are two options to choose from; Bill Regularly allows you to bill the project at any point and Bill at Project Closing allows this project to be held back from Invoicing till it's ready.
Subscribers: Subscribing to a matter is a helpful tool to stay updated on work others complete on a matter
ABA Codes: Turn this on or off, depending on the ABA code setting in the Firm/System settings. This enables you to customize the ABA code setting for each project.
Hide Time from Invoices: This defaults all time entries to be set to “Exclude from Invoice” so they are never billed.
Hide Expenses from Invoices: This defaults all expense entries to be set to “Exclude from Invoice” so they are never billed.
